For the second week in a row Fish Island have been knocked out of a cup. This time it was the Dickie Davies.
The first half saw us pinned back and having to defend lots of long throws and corners. The home team were playing a lot of long balls to decent effect in terms of causing our back line to sit deeper.
Despite this Alex wasn’t really tested until the first goal. It came from a corner kick. The ball was coming into the near post but skipped off Jacob’s head the most acute angle. The defender on post (me!) and Alex didn’t stand a chance. 1-0.
The goal was a blow however it didn’t cause our heads to drop and we defended well for the rest of the half. A few more clear cut chances would have been welcome but we lacked a bit of composure in the final third.
1-0 at half time.
The second half was a better showing from us. We passed the ball better and restricted Quays to few chances. The home team briefly went down to ten men when their full back was sin binned for dissent. This was a great opportunity for the Scales to strike back but Quays defended resolutely. The second goal came 20 mins from time. A recycled corner was lofted back into the FIFC penalty box. It wasn’t dealt with and the Quays striker lashed the rebound in from close range. 2-0. The final 10 minutes saw us play 10 v 10. Jacob went off injured without any available substitutes and the home team’s striker was dismissed for hitting Alex in the chest. Alex did well not to react.
2-0 at full time. Not a terrible performance by any means but perhaps a regrettable one as with more options on the bench I feel that we could have overcome the deficit.
