It was a 2-2 draw at the marshes today. Both teams played with belief in a fixture that could be the start of a spirited rivalry.
The blustery conditions meant that direct football was out of the question and both teams played a shorter passing game. The best chances in the first half came from the home team but were thwarted by a pair of top drawer saves from Alex. Eventually the Lions managed to break through. A long pass put their striker through who tried to lob our on rushing keeper. The shot fell short but was nodded in by another player who looked suspiciously offside. The goal stood. 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw us playing better with the ball being moved with more urgency. The equaliser came at around 55 minutes. Nathan pressured the goalkeeper into giving the ball away which eventually fell to Jack who squared the ball for Halcyon who beat the keeper at the near post. 1-1! The level pegging did not last for long however. We were caught out on the right hand side which allowed the Lions to played a great ball across the box for their striker to convert. 2-1. Fish Island has to dig deep for find another equaliser in the remaining 20 minutes. The goal started from Halcyon doing well to hold up the ball on the left wing. He squared the ball to Andrew on the inside who made a quick pass to Jordan. Fish Island’s player of the season played an onrushing David through on the right hand side. The right back thumped the ball past the keeper emphatically. 2-2! With all to play for neither team were content with a draw but despite best efforts it ended even.
