Club History

The club was founded in 2014. The initial squad consisted nearly entirely of Fish Island and Hackney Wick residents.

After raising money for kit and equipment the fledgling squad embarked on their first league adventure in the East London League where they were eventually sponsored by Truman’s brewery. Despite the first league campaign being a tough one the Scales were able to finish runners up in the cup which was a memorable day for all involved.

The following season saw the team move league to the ILFL and switch sponsorship to Currell estate agents. The rejuvenation of the team combined with the afore mentioned changes meant the second season felt like a reboot. With so many changes the team struggled that season to gain consistency.

The third season saw another change of league and another high turnover of players. The team joined the long running Camden Musical league. This was an interesting season for the Scales as it saw some marked improvements in the team and a respectable points tally. However it was also a turbulent season where the club’s founder and chairman was unable to continue mid way through the season. The end of season accounting and planning was a chaotic and painful process.

Once more looking for a fresh start Fish island moved onto the greener pastures in the Hackney and Leyton league. They had also renewed their sponsorship with Currells which helped massively with the transition period. Changes to how the team operated yielded diviends both on and off the pitch with the team securing their first mid table finish.

For the first time in the team’s history Fish Island remained in the same league and also experienced a low turnover of players. The net effect of this saw the Scales record a first ever top half finish. The squad’s reinvigorated enthusiasm at the end of the club’s fifth season has built a promising platform for future seasons!
