It was the first loss of 2020 for Fish Island as they were defeated 0-1 by the NE Lions.
Fish Island played against the wind in the first half which caused the back line to sit deeper than usual. The wingers provided assistance to prevent overlaps on the wings. Despite being well contained the Lions managed to find the break through 25 minutes into the match. A good cross from the left wing saw their target man ghost inside for a close range header. 0-1. FIFC responded by creating a few half chances but nothing to test the Lions goalkeeper. The Scales thought that they had equalised 5 minutes from half time only to see the goal ruled out for an infringement on the goalkeeper. The decision seemed dubious to me but I may be biased!
0-1 at half time.
The message at half time was to start pressing higher. FIFC were able to retain possession better which allowed the back line to step up to the halfway line for long periods. Despite this the Lions showed great counterattacking intent. The best chances to equalise fell to Nile and Pepo. Unfortunately neither were able to convert. The match ended without any further goals and with the Fish reeling from a missed opportunity to beat the league leaders. COYS.
