It was a 2-2 draw for the Scales this weekend.
The first goal was an East London one. It was a counterattack from a corner. East London kept two players high up the pitch creating a 2v3. A through ball was played which we failed to clear and then a subsequent pass put their striker through on goal. Alex managed to get a foot to the shot but not enough to keep it out. 1-0. The scorer was clearly offside however we could have dealt with the threat better. We equalised soon after from a corner. The ball rattled around the six yard box and sat up for Craig to bury it from close range. 1-1! The away side restored their lead from a corner of their own. Burnie won a near post arial challenge only for the ball to fly into the net for an own goal. 1-2.
1-2 at half time. The half time message was that the comeback was ours for the taking.
The second half performance was improved. There were notable chances for Craig, Jack, Jozef, Nile and Mark but none of them were converted. Despite the away side’s stubborn defence we were able to equalise once more. Nile raced through into the box to zip past the keeper only to be hauled down for a penalty. Burnie stepped up to the spot and tucked it away in the top corner. 2-2! The match became extremely open in the closing ten minutes with chances squandered at each end. Despite our second half dominance the East Londoners forced Alex into two fine near post saves to secure our point.
We left the pitch disappointed with the draw however there were positives to take from the performance. Particularly our ability to comeback from a losing position.
